Egypt plane crash
The News
One of the important factors that affect the travel and tourism industry is the news, the news spread the incident and allows the world to notice what happens around the world. The news can control the opinions of the people in the world and this is where the industry is being affected and where they have to react quickly to change it.
What would you say about Egypt? It is an amazing place! well, used to be. There was a time, not long ago when tourists used to fly to Egypt, it was enjoyed by anyone who visited with the beautiful historical attractions like the pyramids to the lovely beach for tourists who wanted a relaxing vacation. It was the place everyone loved! However, within the last year tourists trust has been split in half due to the dreadful acts that have occurred involving Egypt. Now Egypt is seen as a dangerous, untrusted and a scary place to visit.
This recent incident is one of the reasons why Egypt has had a turn in their income:
The Russian plane was detected to have picked up heat around the plane, the plane then crashed in in Egypt and killed all 224 people on board. The black box in the aircrafts cockpit recorded that the cause of the crash is due a bomb outside the aircraft. The aircraft was travelling from Sharm el-Sheikh to the Russian city of ST Petersburg. This effects the travel and tourism industry in a significant way! Egypt tourists that were on holiday around that time were probably terrified flying back after the news of the plane crash, can you imagine them telling their friends and family about the crash? More and more tourists are being put off by Egypt, tourist are now scared of going on holiday to Egypt or even going on a plane. This is effecting the travel and tourism sector because travel agents would find it difficult to sell holidays to people that are scared to fly or go to Egypt. Egypt get most of their income form tourist and the fact that their tourism rate will start to decrease massively after the second big incident within this year, it's not looking good for Egypt!
Here are some statistics of Egypts visitor exports. In 2008 their rate was very good and Egypt were probably making a large amount of capital, it was 105.8. However, in 2009 there was a slight decrease and the rate was 94.3 then by 2010 it had risen to 101. By 2011 there was a massive drop, it had decreased to 65.3 which was probably a bad time for Egypt. In 2012 it had started to pick up slightly then a sudden drop from 70.3 to 46 in 2013 and last year 2014 it was not looking good with a 47. I think in 2015 the number would have decreased massively by looking at was has happened to the country throughout the year, with the year Mexican tourist being killed to the Russian plane crash on Saturday the 31st October 2015.
How would the country respond to this?
The country now have to regain the name of Egypt and have to do everything they can to gain trust from tourists. Egypt have taken into consideration that their country is currently unsafe for tourists to visits, knowing this they have restricted travel to the resort where the plane has been departed from. Doing this would be the most safer option as they would be protecting tourists and making sure that there is no other incident that could push their country off the edge. Also this development may have a positive impact, this may be because the tourists who now think negatively about Egypt might change their minds once they find out that they are trying to keep all tourists safe and they would think that they are cared about. This would then mean that people are going to start feeling less scared of travelling and eventually as people start to forget what has just occurred, Egypt will start getting back on their feet. That's only if nothing else happen in the following year to the country!

Safety is a big concern when travelling in an aircraft, security play the biggest part at the airport. Their job depends on whether the plane is safe enough or whether the plane is going to be bombed or if the passengers are going to be held hostage. Somehow they are not doing their job correctly if people are getting away with terrorism and carrying illegal item on board. As you know recently there has been a lot of serious incidents that security could be to blame for, because of this they have gone into deeper research on who could would have smuggled a bomb into the Russian aircraft. Zack Gold part of the national security crew states "If it was a bomb, it was almost certainly due to infiltration of the airport, but not by a passenger. To sneak something through the security screening in the airport would have been lucky than anything else." This is suggesting that a member of staff including the ground workers could be to blame for this! Although the staff are checked all the time, it is said that a bomb cannot not be smuggled past security it must have been taken through exits that are normally not entered by any passengers. The security have changed massively since 9/11 and it is still said that Egypt's security is tight but they should maybe keep an eye on the staff and make sure nothing ever like this gets smuggled on the plane so that the world can be safe and protected from death.
The travel and tourism organisations have to respond as soon as they can due to the news about Egypt. As the tourists are being advised not to go Egypt businesses like travel agents would have to make some quick changes to save their business and make sure they don't lose out on income too. They would have to decrease their prices to attract tourists and also they would need to back up and they would have to find another destination to sell to travellers. This would have a large impact on attractions in Egypt too, they would have hardly any tourists visiting their attraction and if it continues like this they would be forced to shut down as they would not be making any money to survive.
Terrorist attacks also effects Britain's tourism. When you hear about a terrorist attack how do you feel? Most people feel the same way, scared, put off and traumatised. Its not relaxing when you are on a flight waiting for something bad to happen or on the beach waiting to be killed and this is why people do not like to travel anymore because they cannot take the risk. In June 2015, Tunisia came across are serious incident where a gun man killed 38 people, 30 of then were found to be from the UK. This would effect the UK as the because our UK tourists would yet again not want to take the risk of being attacked in that certain destination which means travel agents that specialise in Tunisian holidays would of lost out on tourists but then people forget about it after a while and the businesses would pick up again.

technology
Technology has played a huge part in travel and tourism in past decade. With website, apps and social media the travel and tourism industry has gone through the roof! Having apps has made it easier to access all the holiday deals and made it easier to find packages you wish to look at. Everything has become easier and that's what the public want, an easy access to everything in life. With social media continuously becoming popular, people know more about what's around the world that people don't usually see. With friends posting pictures of their holidays on Instagram and Facebook has a positive effect on the travel and tourism industry as more and more people want to zoom off to a beautiful destination and that is mostly because of the images and comments they see on the social media we have today.
With technology it is so much easier to board a plane! You no longer need a paper copy of your boarding passes all you need is a smart phone, how easy is that? There's no more worries about losing paper passes because now you can download your flights app and easily board on to your plane without any chaos.
Travelling is not just about holidays, you may be lost in the area you live within and with technology there would be no problem because now we have the internet where maps are easy to access so you can reach your destination quickly and easily.

How are business travel agents responding to the increase in use of technology?
Booking holidays have become more flexible and people are now able to book a holiday without a use of travel agents because it is easy! To survive travel agents would have to move with technology, for example they may create their own websites and apps so that they are still in business and that would keep their organisation moving forward and using technology to make their businesses bigger.

Jet2holidays have an app that is available on the apple app store and on Google play. This means that the Jet2holidays company is moving with the times so that they can survive and they have done it successfully, having an app on your smart phone means that it is simple for customers to look at packages or even book a vacation all on their own.The traditional method of checking in a few hours before your flight is becoming old, now we have this whole new easier method that allows you to check-in the night before your flight, not only that you have pick and book your seats you would like to be seated on during the flight. Amazing right? It's cheaper, quicker and you can have time to relax before your flight instead of standing impatiently at the back of the check-in queue. Jet2holidays is one of many that has this life changing system! Passengers can get stressed. From losing boarding passes to running late for their flight, but now technology has pulled them out and saved their life. Passengers no longer have to stand in a 40 minute queue or pay to print off their second boarding pass.
the growth in independent travellers
With people going on holiday more often it has lead to tourists becoming more confident in travelling without the help of tour guides. This is why there has been a large growth in independent travellers. What are Thomas Cook doing about this? The organisation aims to sell flights, hotel rooms, car hire and train tickets separately for the large number of people who feel more confident in putting their own holiday together with out the need of any holiday reps. This means that they would be saving them selves for the future when more or less everyone are predicted to become independent travellers, they have to move with the trend to survive because if they don't there would be no need for tour guides and reps which would mean the firm would lose out on a lot of income. This is why they have to continuously come up with new ideas and plans to help them survive in the industry.
